What are the top requirements to qualify for this position?

Qualifications:   

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field (MS is a plus), or relevant experience    
  • Fluency in Japanese and English    
  • Strong product management or product design experience with consumer-facing Internet or mobile products and technologies

 

Pluses:    

  • Familiarity with Japan-specific technologies, such as FeliCa    
  • History of leading through fast-paced, high-growth, uncertain environments    
  • Ability to plan and drive execution of go to market strategies and grow a product from concept to success    
  • Clear understanding of Twitter products and a passion for taking them to the next level    
  • Understanding of how large-scale Internet sites work    
  • Experience and interest in designing simple and functional user interfaces

Why is this position open?

Twitter is aiming to be a foundational part of Japanese society, and needs someone to help design the products that can achieve this goal. We are looking for a stellar product manager who is well-versed in Japanese technologies such as FeliCa and Japanese feature phones, and someone who is able to balance Twitter’s global vision with the uniqueness of the Japanese market. You will be responsible for creating products that will become foundational communication infrastructure for Japan.

The Product Team is responsible for the product throughout its lifecycle, and works closely with engineering, design and user support to deliver products that are changing the world!

What challenges will this person face on a daily basis?
  • Contribute to the company-wide strategic direction as well as cater that direction to the needs of the Japanese market    
  • Lead the establishment of a vision for the Japanese product that can become foundational to Japanese society    
  • Design products that balance the Twitter product vision and style with the needs and style of the Japanese market    
  • Drive the creation of Japanese products leveraging uniquely Japanese technologies such as FeliCa and Japanese feature phones
  • Create a reliable, easy-to-use product that can serve as a universal lifeline    
  • Be a bridge between Japan and the San Francisco Product organization    
  • Define methods of quantifying success (or failure) and ensure that your team has a clear ability to understand and articulate its objectives
