What are the top requirements to qualify for this position?

3 years or more of experience developing with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
3 years or more of developing with a server-side language (Ruby, Python, PHP, etc)
Has worked at all levels of the technology stack
Knows 'The Good Parts' of JavaScript
Has an opinion of what parts of HTML5 and CSS3 should really be used

Why is this position open?

Groupon is looking for great front-end developers. We are looking for people that can have an immediate impact, so experienced front-end engineers are preferred, but anybody with experience working on user interfaces and a passion for detail are encouraged to apply.

Describe the current team this person will join, including the reporting structure.

We work in small, independent and agile teams, and collaborate with product designers to implement stuff quickly.

What percentage of the candidate's time will be spent on existing products/business, versus items that are new?

There are not a lot of boundaries here, so expect to make a big impact. The code we check in today is running in production that week -- sometimes that day. So we need people that will take pride in the quality of their code and take it personally when there's a bug that slowed the site down.

What challenges will this person face on a daily basis?

Implement new features for the Groupon web app
Interact with product designers to make sure all user interactions are well-designed and implemented correctly
Fix bugs as they are found. Get them deployed
Test features across all major browsers
Identify and fix performance issues

What are the growth opportunities for the person in this position?

Groupon is a new and fast growing company. There are a lot of opportunities for our engineers to grow in terms of responsibility and to work with new and exciting product teams.
