Why is this position open?

GreatSchools is experiencing strong growth in various areas including
advertising support, product management and other site developments
and enhancements. This is an exciting opportunity for the right
candidate.

Describe the current team this person will join, including the reporting structure.

This position will report directly to the Director, Online Marketing.
The position will also work closely with the Campaign Manager and the
entire Sales team, as a key contributor in a very tight knit team. Sales-Marketing support was originally 50% of the Director, Online Marketing role. We are now going to have 100% of this new role focus on Sales Marketing and sales support.

What percentage of the candidate's time will be spent on existing products/business, versus items that are new?

We are constantly working with sales on new campaigns and RFP's as
they come in. This role will therefore be working primarily on
driving and closing new business. Once a deal closes and goes into
implementation, the role will be working closely with the development
and engineering teams. This is a great balance of pre- and post-sales
support.

What challenges will this person face on a daily basis?

The world of online advertising and media is a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Finding the right balance between the needs and demands of the Sales team, and doing what's right for the organization as a whole will be the greatest opportunity for this role.

How are you positioned within the industry and what are your growth plans?

We currently reach 1 in 3 households in America that have children that are of a Pre-K through 12 age. We plan on continuing this reach and growth, and ultimately want to stay with parents throughout the entire cycle of their children's education.

What is your business model?

We have a combination model of funding from philanthropic organizations as well as advertising and sponsorship revenue.

GreatSchools looks intriguing, Jane. I noticed that it's a ".org" yet you also seem to sell advertising.

Is GreatSchools a non-profit or for-profit? Who provides the funding? Thanks!

  • GreatSchools
    Hello,
Great question. GreatSchools is a .org and a non-profit. We provide advertising opportunities for advertising partners, in order to off set the cost of operating our business. We have several funders, including the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, that enable us to do more extensive site development to help parents in their school choice and parenting decisions.
